Heritage Open Days - St Wilfrid's Church, Barrow on Trent
10 September 2022 - 11 September 2022
10 September 2022 - 11 September 2022
Our beautiful 1000 year old church is one of only two intact Knights Hospitaller churches in the country and hosted an anchorite. It also has what is thought to be one of the oldest alabaster effigies of a priest. We also have plague pits.
Come and see the transformation that has taken place to turn the church into a community space. Our NLHF project aims to tell 1000 years of stories about the church and the people who used and built it. There will be guides all day who can answer your questions or you can just enjoy this beautiful space and listen to some music. If the weather is hot, our church will be nice and cool. Come and see us and find out about all the heritage events we also have coming up. We would love to see you.
Our programme for the weekend is as follows:
Saturday 10th September – 10.30am to 4.30pm. Church tour 11am. Village tour 2pm. Make a calligraphy bookmark and have a go at writing using a quill.
Sunday 11th September – 10.30am to 4.30pm. Church tour 11am. Village tour 2pm. Have a go at corn dolly making.
