Join the team for colliery tours and 40th anniversary events commemorating the closure of Snibston, Whitwick and South Leicester Collieries
The park is free but the tours have a charge (see below)

Tour times 11am and 1.30pm each tour is about 1/5 hours – 25th April and 30th October have different times – all tours start and finish at the colliery cafe

Special events *
- 25th April Miners dirty bus specials 10.30am to 4.30pm – Display of classic buses used to transport miners from homes to the mine. In collaboration with Leicester Transport Heritage Trust who will display three preserved buses. At 12noon there will be a free classic bus tour from Snibston to Desford and Back. Tours 11am to 2pm
- 22nd August Miners’ Snap 10am to 4pm Colliery tours 11am to 1.30pm. What did miners have for their snap? Learn about traditional miners food and history with food to sample and display of recipes. In collaboration with Grounds colliery Cafe.
- 6th September – Snibston Historic Bus festival : Event 10am to 4.30pm. Colliery tours 11am and 1.30pm. In collaboration with the Leicester Transport Heritage Trust and following the successful 100 years of Midland Red in Coalville Bus Festival in 2025, this year’s event will showcase other preserved buses and cars. - 20th September – Snibston Colliery Open Day – Event 10am to 4.30pm. Colliery Tours 11am and 1.30pm. A special day to celebrate the story of Snibston, Whitwick and South Leicester collieries with exhibitions and displays. www.nwleic.gov.uk/helloheritage
- 30th October – Ghostly Goings on in the pit – Halloween colliery tours 5.30pm and 7pm. A chance to tour the colliery by lantern light and experience its spooky atmosphere. Stories of ghostly goings on in the mines will be told by guides.
- 31st October – Haunting Tales from the Pit – Halloween colliery tours 11am and 1.30pm.  Join the colliery guides as they tell their haunting tales of ghostly goings on at the pit.
- 13th December – A Miners’ Christmas – Event 10.30am to 4pm. Colliery tours 11am and 1.30pm. The colliery guides will tell their stories of Christmas at the pit and in Grounds colliery cafe there will be toys to play with from the 1950s to 1970s.
