If you like unique and quirky then our shopping will delight you – not for us are streets filled with national chains!
Swadlincote is South Derbyshire’s largest settlement and home to a traditional tree-lined High Street and free parking. Vintage shops are our speciality with a great range of unique gifts, interior furnishings, and vintage delights. You will also discover a traditional sweet shop with glass jar lined shelves filled with sherbet lemons, pear drops and creamy fudge to name but a few! A traditional butcher, baker, florist and bustling market along with a deli, pet shop, banks and building societies can all be found – even a post office and library!
Melbourne is a splendid example of a small Georgian market town, once a centre of market gardening, the glove making industry and home to travel entrepreneur, Thomas Cook. At its hub is the Market Cross and the streets radiating out feature shops filled with boutique clothing, gifts, floristry, crafts and works of art. There is also a selection of bistros, gastro pubs and micro-breweries to rest and refresh you! (PS: Melbourne Hall and Gardens, and one of the best examples of a Norman Church are on the doorstop if you have the time).
The village of Willington is host to Mercia Marina and its Boardwalk of independent shops, cafés and restaurants. Whether you are seeking a special gift, an outfit, piece of art, jewellery, garden or homeware, or even a canal boat, it is the perfect place to spend a few relaxing hours.
Elsewhere in South Derbyshire, our rural villages are home to numerous farm shops and gardens centres, from specialist plant suppliers to award-winning butchers.
