Swadlincote
Located at the heart of the National Forest and famous for its rich pottery and mining heritage, Swadlincote is the main town in South Derbyshire, and the famous blue and white kitchenware known as ‘Cornishware’ was formerly manufactured by the TG Green pottery in the town.
Its tree-lined, pedestrianised high street and ‘The Pipeworks’, an adjoinng retail development, are home to 150 big name and independent retail and food outlets including Boots, Clintons, Halfords, Just for Pets, Sainsbury’s, Shoe Zone, Specsavers and Superdrug, alongside lots of fantastic independent shops.
Vintage shops with unique gifts and interior furnishings are a speciality and the town can proudly boast a traditional sweet shop, family butcher, baker, florist, deli, pet shops, haberdashery and a bustling market every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.
You will also find a Post Office and branches of the major banks (Lloyds, Santander and Nationwide).
Independent businesses are the heartbeat of our community, meet some of ours here and download our free shopping guide or just the map and explore for yourself!
The town’s bus station is in the pedestrianised centre and best of all – parking is free – we also have charging points for electric vehicles!
Three trails mark the town’s heritage roots – maps point out the places of interest and handy guides help you find your way around.
Leisure time is well-catered for too, with a library, leisure centre, Swadlincote Snowsports Centre, the Odeon Cinema, Sharpe’s Pottery Museum, the Apex Indoor Climbing Centre, nearby Swadlincote Family Golf Centre, and two Green Flag parks, both with children’s play areas, crazy golf, bowling greens, walking trails and outdoor gym equipment on the doorstep. Swadlincote Woodlands, a 15 minute walk from the centre, has also been awarded Green Flag status recently.
Eureka Park also features a small Garden of Remembrance created by the local branch of the British Legion.
Leafy Swadlincote Woodlands is a place to relax and unwind, with interpretative boards and 40,000 trees it is a haven for wildlife. There are two trails through the woodlands and you can test your skills on the orienteering course.
