As the nights draw in, pumpkins begin to glow and fireworks prepare to light up the sky, South Derbyshire is bursting with family-friendly fun this Halloween and Bonfire Night season. From spooky trails and pumpkin patches to magical storytelling, Halloween parties and spectacular fireworks displays, there’s something for witches, wizards, little monsters and grown-ups alike.

Following are some of the treats in store, but please check with organisers before travelling as event details may change and some activities require advance booking.

16 – 25 October

Myriad by Architects of Air – The Children’s Country House at Sudbury, DE6 5HT. An immersive world of colour, light and sensory experiences. Booking essential.

17 October – 1 November

Spooky Tunnels – Calke Abbey, Ticknall. Explore eerie tunnels filled with seasonal surprises. Included with admission.

17 – 31 October

Scarecrow Competition Trail – Calke Abbey, Ticknall. Discover creative scarecrows and vote for your favourite.

19 October – 1 November

CONKERS October Half Term Fun – CONKERS, Moira, DE12 6GA. Crafts, scavenger hunts, train rides, cinema screenings and live entertainment included with admission.

22 October, 1pm – 2.30pm

Relaxed Halloween Storytelling & Crafts (SEND-Friendly) – Calke Abbey, Ticknall. A quieter storytelling and craft session designed for SEND and neurodivergent children.

24 – 31 October

Free Spooky Trail – Visit South Derbyshire Visitor Information Centre, Swadlincote. Pick up a trail sheet, find hidden letters around town and claim a treat.

Pumpkin Village – National Forest Adventure Farm. Pumpkin picking, live entertainment, seasonal food and family fun.

National Forest Adventure Farm Halloween Fun – Enjoy indoor and outdoor play, animal encounters, barrel rides and Pumpkin Village access.

October Half Term Storytelling Sessions – Calke Abbey, Ticknall. Join Fiona the Calke Witch for magical stories and crafts. Recommended for ages 4-8.

27 October, 10am – 12pm

Harry Potter-Themed Family Breakfast – Compamigos, Mercia Marina, DE65 6DW. Magical games, activities and breakfast with a special guest.

27 October, 3pm – 5pm

Wildlife Watch Autumn Lights – Rosliston Forestry Centre, DE12 8JX. Create lanterns and enjoy a guided woodland walk at dusk. Booking essential.

27 & 31 October

Halloween Spooktacular – Hero Town, Melbourne, DE73 8JB. Roleplay adventures, crafts, treats and a Halloween disco. Pre-booking essential.

28 – 31 October

Halloween Forest Light Walk – CONKERS, Moira. Ghost train rides, forest light trail, crafts, disco and family entertainment.

29 October, 1pm – 3pm

Halloween Trail and Craft Event – Newhall Park, DE11 0JY. Free family trail and Halloween crafts.

30 October, 12.30pm – 2.30pm

Halloween Party (Relaxed and Low Sensory) – Hilton Village Hall, DE65 5GH. Inclusive, low-sensory Halloween fun with crafts and a bouncy castle.

30 October, 6pm – 9pm

Family Fireworks Spectacular 2026 – CONKERS, Moira. Fireworks, laser show, entertainers, train rides and family fun.

7 & 8 November, 2pm – 8pm

Bonfire Night at the National Adventure Farm – A spectacular musical fireworks display, bonfire, entertainment, rides and family activities. Booking essential.
