TTV Tucklesholme & Branston Circular Walk
This flat walk follows the Trent Valley Way along the River Trent and the Trent and Mersey Canal.
This walk will largely take you along well-defined paths, but there are a few steps and a footbridge over a railway line. Also do take care crossing the A38.
The key Points of Interest on this walk are:
- Tucklesholme Nature Reserve
- Formerly a gravel pit, the Staffordshire Wild Life Trust have been working to transform it into a wetland habitat, suitable for breeding bird species.
- The Type 24 Pillbox
- A small fortification built early in the Second World War, to be garrisoned by 7 soldiers and used in the event that Nazi forces were able to land on British soil.
- The Transforming the Trent Valley Scheme has converted a few of these pillboxes along the River Trent to act as large bat boxes and nests for swallows.
- Branston Water Park
- Originally an open cast gravel pit, the water park is home to many species of plants and animals. The wildlife ranges from common to nationally rare – and the reedbed is the largest in Staffordshire.
