Swarkestone 4mi Circular

This 4 mile walk takes you along the scenic views in and around Swarkestone village. In particular, you get to walk a nice stretch of both the River Trent and the Trent and Mersey Canal, flanked by the vast farms and lanes that a staple of the English countryside, taking in farmland, market gardens, villages and waterways.

Views of the Swarkestone Bridge should also be possible during the walk along the banks of River Trent.

Parking in Swarkestone itself is quite limited, with Swarkestone’s roads being A roads and the Swarkestone Bridge, so this walk begins in Chellaston for an easier time with bus travel and parking, but the circular route is around Swarkestone itself.

This walk is suitable for all the family, however, the terrain does make it unsuitable for wheelchair users and anyone with a pram – so please bear that in mind!

This route takes you on footpaths, towpaths and roads. Caution is advised near the roads, since they are particularly busy stretches.
