Derby Canal Path & The Cloud Trail for walkers and cyclists
A lovely, flat, well-surfaced and mostly traffic-free route from Derby City centre to the village of Worthington, along canal paths and a former railway for walkers and cyclists. Stunning views over the surrounding area. The trail is great for families and less-experienced cyclists.
Starting near Derby city centre, this route follows an attractive path alongside the River Derwent before turning south on the Derby Canal Path to the Trent and Mersey Canal. You then join the Cloud Trail – a repurposed railway path which takes you to the village of Worthington and Cloud Quarry.
Along the way you will cross the Grade II listed Trent Viaduct near the attractive Georgian market town of Melbourne in South Derbyshire. Just before you reach Worthington car park, a left turn takes you on a path around the rim of Cloud Quarry. This section has stunning views.
From Cloud Quarry, you can continue onwards for another 10 miles along quiet lanes and traffic-free sections to Loughborough in Leicestershire.
