Tales from the Magic Attic

Imagine a place where ordinary people’s lives are actively being discovered, celebrated and preserved in direct opposition to the national newspapers obsession with celebrities and the wealthy.
Where you can find a living archive of photographs and cuttings of bygone sports days, tea parties, office reunions and dog shows; treasured items and relics from the past, and you will have glimpsed into the world of The Magic Attic.
During lockdown, Dr Eleanor Yule of Liverpool John Moore University, was intrigued by a podcast exploring the story of ‘The Mysterious case of Fred the Head’. This lead her to discover The Magic Attic.
Entranced not only by the large sprawling and atmospheric archive of ancient newspapers and artefacts, but also the warmth and welcome of the volunteers and visitors that frequented it, over a period of three years, Dr Yule and her team gently and meticulously filmed its story.
A unique opportunity to gain an insight to a thriving community, these limited screenings are your opportunity to understand the magic behind the name.
